Pilates during menopause: what can it offer?

Pilates can be an enjoyable way to stay active during menopause. Controlled exercises help you work on strength, balance and movement control. Conscious attention to breathing can help you find a moment of calm. Pilates does not treat hormonal changes or guarantee fewer hot flushes or other menopause symptoms.

Choose exercises that suit you

The right exercises depend on your experience, energy and physical complaints. Trunk control, leg and arm strength and gentle mobility exercises may be part of a class. Pelvic floor symptoms or osteoporosis call for individual advice. Pilates can be part of your routine; it does not replace assessment or treatment by a health professional.

Is Hot Pilates comfortable during menopause?

At bbb, you can experience Hot Pilates in a hot cabin at approximately 40°C, with your head outside. Some women enjoy the warmth when they feel stiff or tense. Others find extra heat uncomfortable, for example during hot flushes. We discuss what suits you and choose another workout when needed. Heat is not a hormone treatment or detox.

Combine Pilates with strength, recovery and coaching

A manageable routine can include different forms of movement. Combine Pilates with strength training during menopause, walking and sufficient recovery. There is no fixed number of classes after which symptoms must disappear. At bbb, we consider body, food & mind and adjust your routine based on your experience.

For general information, see NHS advice on lifestyle during menopause.

Recovery and physical complaints: personal attention

bbb also supports women who want to exercise during recovery or with physical complaints. Explore exercise during recovery, a herniated disc, rheumatism and a frozen shoulder. We discuss suitable movement and follow advice from your clinician when needed. Coaching at bbb complements medical care.
