What is strength training for women?

Strength training means working against resistance, for example using dumbbells, resistance bands or your body weight. Your muscles produce force to move or hold a position. For women, the aim is exercise and loading that suit their goals, experience and health.

What can strength training offer?

Regular training can help you become stronger and maintain or build muscle mass. This can make everyday movements such as lifting, standing up and climbing stairs easier. Resistance training can also form part of an approach to bone health. It does not guarantee weight loss or automatically restore hormonal balance.

Which exercises are involved?

A workout can include movements for your legs, glutes, back, chest, arms and trunk. Examples include standing up from a chair, an adapted squat, a resisted rowing movement or a wall push-up. Not every exercise suits everyone: your coach helps with selection, technique and gradual progression.
