How can you practise balance with Pilates?

Balance involves cooperation between factors including strength, sensation and movement control. Pilates can help you practise controlled movements and positions. Start with sufficient support and a manageable challenge. No exercise works best for every woman; selection depends on abilities and experience.

Examples of suitable exercises

Gentle weight shifts or brief single-leg standing with a chair within reach can be part of balance practice. On a mat, you may practise alternating arm and leg movements from a stable position. Your coach selects suitable variations. Extra instability is not automatically better and requires careful progression.

Learn coordination gradually

Coordination means organising movements together. You can learn one movement first, then add another. Slow practice gives time to notice technique. Keep breathing comfortably and choose an easier variation if control is lost. Progress may mean performing the same movement more smoothly or with less support.
