Since bbb I am as good as pain free
It has been a little over 3 years since I first walked into bbb health boutique Haarlem. A friend of mine trained at bbb and was very excited because it helped her get in shape after her pregnancy. She had lost many pounds and centimeters in a short time.
My youngest daughter was now 6 months old and I wanted to get rid of my last pregnancy kilos. I also continued to have pain in my joints, which I initially thought was due to the pregnancy. I turned out to have rheumatism and started pain medication. It was a challenging time. I am a mother of 3 small children, now aged 3, 7 and 9. I have a senior management position at a major clothing brand. The diagnosis made me feel like I was losing traction. I suddenly couldn't do the 'normal things' anymore, such as running and playing hockey with friends. It also meant that I had to put myself first. bbb helped me with this.
Because of bbb:
- I got rid of the pain medication after intensive training
- I now exercise 3 times a week which gives me a me-time moment
- I feel safe and supported to be vulnerable when things are not going well
And no, that didn't happen by itself.
It went really well! I was back in shape after my pregnancy, I had my pain under control through exercise and I was off my medication until March 2020.
The first lockdown created a huge setback for me. I had to go back on the meds and got more pain. Fortunately, bbb health boutique Haarlem was already open outside with the cabins after 2 months, because exercising at home on my mat was not enough.
Unfortunately, the time between the first and second lockdown was not enough to recover. As a result, my complaints became so bad that I curled up in pain. Together with Danielle and Marlene Stiekema, the owners of bbb health boutique Haarlem, I looked at what could be done to reduce my pain. During that time they were a huge support and things slowly got better.
I hear you thinking; how do you do that? Three small children, a full-time job and sports 3 times a week. In addition to necessity, it was a moment for me that I really wanted to claim. A session in the cabin is only 30 minutes. You can do that somewhere in between. The coaching I received in this from bbb has helped me to make choices that suit me, to do this and to stick to it. At the same time, they are not magicians. Motivation really has to come from within. But even if you don't have it completely clear yet; they will help you. But also if I don't workout in the cabins then I hurt more.
In addition to the hot cabin, I also exercise outside during a bootcamp, TRX or outside30 strength workout. I even tried kickboxing recently and do a weekly pilates or yoga class in the studio. They are small groups and you can schedule flexibly. I like that I get to know other ladies in addition to my friends.
I dare say I don't know what to do without bbb.
